Running over three hours, Babylon stars Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and more

La La Land director Damien Chazelle's new film Babylon, which will be released in North America on December 23, is 188 minutes long, a full hour longer than La La Land.

The story focuses on Hollywood in the early 1920s, when Los Angeles is being transformed into a metropolis and the entire film industry is beginning to transition from silent films to sound films, filled with people seeking fame, wealth and power. The film follows the rise and fall of multiple characters, as well as their ambitious, wild and totally out of control lives.

The film has a star-studded cast, Brad Pitt, Diego Calva, Margot Robbie, Li Lijun, Tobey Maguire, John Edgar, Katherine Waterston, Max Minghella, Olivia Wilde, Spike Jonze, Phoebe Tonkin, Samara Weaver, Flea, Rory Scavo, Lukas Haas, Eric Roberts, P.J. Byrne, Da It starred Mon Gompton and cost $80 million to $100 million to make.
Most of the characters in the film are fictional, but are inspired by real-life Hollywood stars.

Pitt plays Jack Conrad, a hard-partying superstar who is a cross between Hollywood stars John Gilbert, Clark Gable, and Douglas Fanpunk, who, after hitting a career-high point, begins to look back and wonder what the future holds.

Margot Robbie plays the scrappy, aspiring actress Nellie larroy, a real-life blend of Clara Baugh, Jenny Eagles, Joan Crawford, Alma Rubens and other early Hollywood stars.

This is the second collaboration between Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt following Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Newcomer Diego Calva plays Mexican immigrant Manny Torres, a Hollywood outsider who acts as the audience's eyes on the ambitious, glitzy world of Babylon.

Li Lijun plays Fay Zhu, inspired by Huang Liushuang, Hollywood's first Chinese film star.

Tobey Maguire as James McKay, inspired by Chaplin. Max Minghella plays the only real person: producer Alvin Sahlberg.
