European luxury retailer Mytheresa has partnered with Irish fashion brand Simone Rocha to launch an exclusive bridal collection that will be available worldwide from March 3, 2021.
As an extension of Simone Rocha's Spring/Summer 2021 collection, the capsule collection reinterprets the brand's iconic elements and subverts stereotypes about femininity in the new season. The capsule collection consists of eight pieces, covering dresses of various lengths, featuring wide silhouettes, puffy sleeves, abstract shapes of beads and embroidery in the main colors of pink, yellow and white. In keeping with Simone Rocha's interpretation of romanticism, the dresses were made of delicate fabrics such as taffeta, tulle and organza, with matching earrings, headscarves and faux pearl hair clips to add glamour. The range ranges in price from €110 to €1,720.
Simone Rocha said: "The idea behind this exclusive bridal collection was to incorporate the iconic designs from the brand's Spring/Summer 2021 collection into the wedding dress through craftsmanship, finishing and embroidery. I am very happy that Laila is featured in this fashion shoot because she is a symbolic bride to me. I made a dress for her wedding in Spain."The Simone Rocha x Mytheresa bridal collection will be available on Mytheresa worldwide from March 3, with the release of a feature fashion film directed by Mytheresa Global Creative Director Julian Paul and featuring renowned food artist Laila Gohar.
Laila Gohar said: "I was thrilled when Simone agreed to design my wedding dress. It will be great to wear Simone's clothes again. Her clothes always make me feel good and comfortable to be myself. I often wear Simone Rocha, whether it's a pair of socks or a gown, and it makes me feel good. Simone and I have worked together many times, and we have a similar sensibility that makes the collaboration very cohesive and centripetal."
- What is the philosophy behind your wedding dress collection for Mytheresa?
SR: The signature designs from the brand's Spring/Summer 2021 collection were incorporated into the wedding dress through craftsmanship, finishing and embroidery.
- How do you imagine a bride in 2021?
SR: Falling in love.
- This capsule collection features pearls, which appear in many of your collections, whether in dresses or accessories, what do they mean to you?
SR: They are the code for femininity.
- Please share with us more about the creative process and inspiration for this series.
SR: I wanted to add rose and cheek reds to this collection. So I embroidered red flowers on organza, embellish red tulle on asymmetrical long-sleeved dresses, and do the same with taffeta bows.
- Is there a symbolic bride who inspires you?
SR: Laila Gohar, I customized a wedding dress for her wonderful wedding in Spain.
- Going back to the poem "Old Things" about the wedding, can you tell me about the old things, the new things, the borrowed things and the blue things that you like?
SR: Something old: my mother's wedding dress.
What's new: The mother Shell Pearl Crown from the Simone Rocha Autumn/Winter 2020 collection.
Something borrowed: Wildflowers borrowed from the earth.
Something blue: Blue striped pajamas from the Spring/Summer 2021 collection.
- Tell me about your relationship with Simone
LG: Simone and I have worked together many times, and we have a similar sensibility that makes the collaboration very close and centripetal. We trust each other's ideas, which is really great because usually we just bounce ideas off each other and then she lets me do it. I think that kind of trust makes for the best cooperation.
- What does Simone's custom dress for your wedding mean to you?
LG: I was so excited when Simone agreed to make my wedding dress. It was very similar to a show dress that wasn't in production, so it was very special to me that she took the time and effort to make it for me.
- How do you feel when you wear Simone Rocha's wedding dress again?
LG: It was great to wear Simone's clothes again. Her clothes always make me feel good and comfortable to be myself. I often wear Simone Rocha, whether it's a pair of socks or a gown, and it makes me feel good.
- In addition to the dress, a wonderful wedding is also inseparable from the food... Why do you think so?
LG: I think it's important for the wedding to feel rich and generous, so the guests can feel relaxed and taken care of. Food is a great tool to achieve this effect, so it's a very important part, just like the wedding soundtrack.
- What's the ideal menu for a wedding?
LG: It depends on where you're having your wedding. If you're at the beach, prepare a variety of fish, vegetable platters, fresh salads, and I also love shellfish - oysters, shrimp, crab tarts...
- Going back to the poem "Somethingold" about weddings, can you talk about something old, something borrowed and something blue that you like?
LG: Something old: A gold chain my mother gave me that she used to wear. I wear it every day.
Borrowed: A pair of shoes I recently borrowed from my sister.
Something blue: A pair of blue earrings my friend Kim gave me.
