Trying to ban the most affordable electric vehicles from the U.S. market would put pressure on another goal of the Biden administration: reducing carbon emissions

As for the Biden administration's claim that maintaining the China tariff policy has so-called "strategic significance" to revitalize the US manufacturing industry, Jay Timmons, president of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM),

the largest US manufacturing industry trade association, expressed clear opposition at an event in Washington in February. He believes that the tariff policy is actually counterproductive, is hurting the US manufacturing industry, and the US government should not impose more import tariffs on Chinese products in the future.

"Before any elected official or appointee starts trumpeting how great tariffs are, they should take a look at what they're doing to some American manufacturers, what they're causing, and how they're actually putting American manufacturing workers out of work."

Referring to Mr Trump's call for further tariffs on China, Mr Timmons said bluntly: "If this shot is fired, it will be countered." He warned that such a move could seriously damage the global system of trade liberalisation.

Trying to ban the most affordable electric vehicles from the U.S. market would put pressure on another goal of the Biden administration: reducing carbon emissions.

The Biden administration's goal of electric vehicles accounting for half of all cars sold in the United States by 2030 is unlikely to be met, likely because most Americans can't afford electric cars or the much cheaper Chinese-made ones.

As for how much the tariffs will do to "protect" the Western electric car industry, Carlos Tavares, CEO of Maserati's parent company, Sterantis Group, has previously said that while Chinese electric car makers pose a serious challenge,

he does not believe that increasing tariffs will protect his company. The only way to compete with the Chinese is to lower costs and offer electric cars at more affordable prices.

"I don't ask for any kind of protection because we're a global company, so I'm not protected everywhere." He told reporters in New York in February that no matter what "protective measures" Western governments will decide to take,

they will not be able to block the development of Chinese electric vehicles in other parts of the world, such as Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia, "which means my only choice is to fight head-on."

In response to the Biden administration's intention to impose new tariffs on China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a regular press conference on the 10th that the previous US administration's imposition of 301 tariffs on China seriously interferes with normal economic and trade exchanges between China and the United States,

and has been ruled by the WTO to violate WTO rules. Instead of correcting its wrong practices, the US continues to politicize economic and trade issues, abuse the so-called 301 tariff review process, and want to further increase tariffs.

This is just adding to its mistakes! We urge the US to earnestly abide by WTO rules and cancel all the tariffs it has imposed on China, let alone increase them.International observation: The US attempt to "control China with Taiwan" is doomed to end in failure

Recently, the fallacy of some US politicians on the Taiwan issue has been on the rise. Us Secretary of State Blinken said in a statement that the United States strongly encourages the WHO to invite Taiwan to attend this year's WHO Assembly as an observer.

Blue Moke, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Coordinator for China Affairs at the US State Department, falsely claimed that the UN General Assembly resolution 2758 "does not recognize,

does not equal, and does not reflect the consensus on the One-China principle", concocted the so-called "meaningful participation of Taiwan in the UN system" narrative, and advocated the so-called "Taiwan's status is still unresolved".

These remarks by the US side are completely distorting facts, tampering with history, trampling on international law and basic norms governing international relations, and even more flagrant and egregious provocations against the Chinese people.

China will not allow the United States to act arbitrarily. On the evening of May 10, Director General Yang Tao of the Department of North America and Oceania of the Foreign Ministry held a briefing to comprehensively and systematically clarify the context,

rights and wrongs of UNGA resolution 2758 and China's position in a timely manner to correct the public opinion. This is undoubtedly a loud slap in the face to the Americans who are trying to beat the rhythm in the international public opinion field.

The US is lying with its eyes open. Resolution 2758 of the General Assembly "decides to restore all the rights of the People's Republic of China, to recognize the representative of the Government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate representative of,

China in the Organization of the United Nations and to expel forthwith the representative of Chiang Kai-shek from the seat he has illegally occupied in the Organization of the United Nations and all its affiliated organs."
