Legend! The Israeli Mother Child Combination Badminton World Championships set a new record by passing the first round, with a combination age approaching 100 years old

In the first round of the mixed doubles competition at the 2023 World Badminton Championships in Denmark, Svetlana Zilberman/Misha Zilberman from Israel defeated their Egyptian counterparts Ir Jamal/Hani 2-0 and advanced to the second round, which is the round of 32. The 69th ranked Israeli player in the world defeated the lower ranked Egyptian player, neither of which is a strong badminton country. However, this match, more precisely, the Israeli pair of participants in the match, has attracted the attention of many fans.

The two of them have the same surname Zilberman and come from the same family. There is a saying that goes, "In battle, brothers go to battle and father son soldiers." This combination is different, they are mother and son. Female athlete Svetlana is 65 years old this year, and her son Misha is also 34 years old. The sum of their ages is close to 100 years old, and they can also win the world championship representing the highest international level, setting a record in all aspects, which can be considered a unique achievement. Of course, it is regrettable that this respected mother son duo will encounter Chinese young duo Jiang Zhenbang/Wei Yaxin in the next round, who may even have the potential to win the championship. It is estimated that the former will be difficult to further advance, but this is enough to leave a record worthy mark in the world badminton arena.

At last year's Tokyo World Championships, the Israeli mother and son also passed the first round and then lost to Malaysia's Chen Jianming/Lai Peijun in the second round, finishing in the round of 32. They made a comeback this year, breaking the record they held for the oldest age group to still win at the World Championships. Last year, some insiders in the badminton industry expressed in the media that their son Misha actually has very good strength, but because his mother is already in her sixties, it is inevitable that Misha will not be able to handle it. Misha will have to shoulder more offensive and defensive responsibilities on the field. If he changes partners, his performance may be even better. Kozelberman and her son have their own ideas, and they insist on being the closest members of the family to form a group for battle.

Svetlana Zilberman was born in May 1958 in Minsk, Belarus. She represented the former Soviet Union in the 1986 European Badminton Championships and won a bronze medal in the women's singles, reaching the pinnacle of her athletic career. Three years later, her son Misha was born. At that time, Svetlana probably wouldn't have thought that Misha would be her partner for the World Badminton Championships many years later. In 1991, Svetlana immigrated to Israel with Misha and personally coached his son when he was 16 years old, hoping to cultivate Misha into a professional badminton player. Misha is also very competitive. He became the first Israeli athlete to compete in badminton at the 2012 London Olympics, making up for his mother's regret of not being able to participate in the Olympics. However, Misha was unable to win. Until the 2016 Rio Olympics, Misha finally won Israel's first victory in the Olympic badminton event. Later, Misha participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, participating in three Olympic Games, which was also rare among all Israeli athletes.
