"Indiana Jones 5" in December online streaming media box office reputation is not ideal

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Lost Ark, the latest action-adventure film, will debut on Disney+ on December 1.

The film was released in theaters at the end of June, with the worst word-of-mouth in the series and poor box office performance, with a global total of $383 million and a cost of $300 million.

Harrison Ford returns as Indiana Jones for the final time, with new cast members including Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Max Mikkelsen, Antonio Banderas, Boyd Holbrook, Thomas Kleishman, and Shanette Renee Wilson.

The film also features a CG version of a younger Jones. James Mangold (" Wolverine 3, "" Speed Race") directs, and John Williams returns for the score.

Raiders of the Lost Ark follows the adventures of a fictional archaeology professor. The first film was released in 1981, followed by the prequel Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Lost Ark in 1984, the sequel Last released in 1989, and the fourth film, The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, in 2008, the last time the series was released by Paramount Pictures.

"Raiders of the Lost Ark" came to the screen in 1992 with The Young Indiana Jones Adventure, a series of adventures featuring a child who follows his father around the world.

Marvel Comics began publishing The Indiana Jones Deep Adventures in 1983, and Dark Horse Comics acquired the comic book rights to the character in 1991.

The film's novel has been published, and there are many original adventure novels, including a novel series by Wolfgang Holbein in Germany, a set of twelve novels published by Bantam Books that preceded the film, and a series inspired by a television show that tells the story of the protagonist's childhood.

Since 1982, a number of Indiana Jones video games have been released.

Raiders of the Lost Ark was directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Lawrence Kasdan, based on an idea by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman. The story takes place in 1936 and stars Harrison Ford as world-trotting archaeologist Indiana Jones, who is battling Nazi Germany for the long-lost Ark of the Covenant, which is rumored to be a relic of the gods that can make the army invincible. Jones teams up with a fiery old flame, Marion Ravenwood, to find a way to stop archaeological rival Rene Beilock from giving the Nazis the location of the Ark of the Covenant.

The film's other main actors include Karen Allain, Paul Freeman, Ronald Lacy, John Rees-Davies, and Denholm Elliott.

The film grew out of Lucas's early 1970s vision, and he worked with Kaufman to further the idea and modernize the early 20th-century franchise, with Kaufman proposing the Ark of the Covenant as the focal point of contention.

Lucas later focused on the space opera project Star Wars, which was released in 1977;

That same year he pitched the idea for Raiders of the Lost Ark to Spielberg, who joined the project a few months later.

The two conceived the film's stunts and sequences, and hired Kasdan to keep the story going.

Principal photography began in June 1980, with a budget of $20 million, and ended in September 1980. In addition to filming at Elstree Studios in England, principal locations included La Rochelle, France, Tunisia, and Hawaii.

Pre-release surveys showed a lack of interest in the film, in contrast to the superhero film Superman II, but this was far from the case. Raiders of the Lost Ark was a huge hit, grossing more than $330 million worldwide and being the world's top-grossing film of 1981, with some cinemas showing it for more than a year.

Critics praised the film for its modern interpretation of the franchise's concept, its constant action and adventure, and its cast of actors, including Ford, Allen, and Freeman.

The film received numerous accolades, including five Academy Awards, seven Saturn Awards, a British Academy Film Award, a Grammy Award, and a Hugo Award.

In its short span of time, Raiders of the Lost Ark has stood the test of time and had an enduring impact on popular culture, ranking among the top films of the 1980s and being one of the few action-adventure masterpieces in film history, spawning imitations across all media and inspiring many filmmakers.

In 1999, the film was inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress for "notable achievements in the fields of culture, history, and aesthetics."
