Chasing the scientific stars of The Times

Unfortunately, due to the conditions at that time, insufficient records and samples were left. Now, with the progress of technology, we hope to make up for this shortcoming.Major breakthrough: Chinese scientists reveal secrets

The research team led by Lu Houyuan, a researcher from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, worked closely with experts from 13 institutions across the country, including the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology,

Linyi University, and the Shangshan Site Management Center of Pujiang County, Zhejiang Province, to jointly carry out research on the origin of rice at multiple sites of Shangshan culture, revealing a continuous evolution history of rice from wild to domesticated over 100,000 years.

This further confirms that China is the origin of rice in the world, and the Shangshan culture, about 10,000 years ago, has an important position in the origin of world agriculture. The relevant paper was published online in the international academic journal Science on the morning of the 24th Beijing time.

On the morning of the 24th, the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology of Zhejiang Province and the people's government of Pujiang County officially released the major research results.

According to reports, Chinese scientists have established scientific standards for effectively distinguishing wild rice from domesticated rice, and have made a series of major discoveries by using multidisciplinary research methods and field archaeology.

As early as 100,000 years ago, wild rice had been distributed in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, which provided the conditions for the ancestors to use and domesticate rice. About 24,000 years ago, the climate entered a cold ice age, which made humans explore new food sources,

and began to collect and use wild rice. About 13,000 years ago, humans began to cultivate wild rice, intentionally or not; About 11,000 years ago, domesticated rice appeared on the "historical stage",

and rice agriculture originated in East Asia. Experts point out that this is an important milestone in the history of human development, and it can be said that the time of the origin of rice agriculture and wheat agriculture in the West Asian Mesopotamia origin is synchronized.

The Shangshan site in Pujiang County was discovered in November 2000. Shangshan Culture was named in November 2006. At present, 24 Shangshan cultural sites have been discovered, all located in Zhejiang Province.

They constitute the largest and most concentrated group of early Neolithic sites known in China and even in East Asia.Spread the beauty of science and enjoy the feast of popular science -- The 2024 National Science and Technology Activity Week was launched

This is an affectionate science and technology exhibition, in which the precious manuscripts, writings, deeds and pictures of dozens of old scientists are displayed to explain to the public what is the spirit of scientists.

This is another lively science popularization feast, "eyes climb Everest", with the astronaut's perspective aboard Shenzhou spacecraft... More than 200 outstanding scientific and technological innovation achievements were concentrated on display, allowing people to enjoy the wonder and beauty of science in a full interactive experience.

On May 25, the main event of the 2024 National Science and Technology Activity Week (hereinafter referred to as "Science and Technology Week") - Science and Technology Innovation Exhibition and scientist Spirit Exhibition was launched in Hall 11,

Shougang Park, Shijingshan District, Beijing, marking the official launch of the annual science and Technology Week. Sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and the China Association for Science and Technology,

the week will last until June 1. This year's theme is "Promoting the spirit of scientists and Stimulating the vitality of innovation in the whole society." Local governments and departments will also carry out a variety of colorful and diverse forms of mass science and technology activities, and jointly let the beauty of science spread to the fullest.

Chasing the scientific stars of The Times

"Relative to the long river of history, human life is only a brief moment, drifting with the tide can only be a vain life, if you can do a small spray galloping, whistling to join the rolling torrent of sacrifice, to promote the development of history,

is the most proud and proud of life." At the special exhibition on the spirit of scientists, an application written in 1988 to join the Party drew the audience's breath. Through this elegant handwriting and sincere expression, people perceive the ardent feelings of serving the country. The owner of this letter is the late Jilin University professor Huang Danian.

The handwritten will of Wang Xuan, former director of the Institute of Computer Science and Technology of Peking University, reads: "I am full of confidence in the future of the country. In the middle of the 21st century, China will become a world power. I can make a small contribution to this end in my lifetime, and I will die without regret."

There are many more such manuscripts on display. The reporter learned that this exhibition, entitled "Chasing the scientific stars of The Times - the theme exhibition of the spirit of scientists", is a basic exhibition of the spirit of Chinese scientists,

according to the core of the spirit of scientists "patriotism, innovation, truth, dedication, collaboration, education", set up six parts, covering dozens of scientists' deeds. As well as the old scientist's letter manuscripts,

notes, vows to join the party and many other exhibits. The theme exhibition integrates the functions of display, education and science popularization, highlighting the charm of the spirit of scientists,

but also shows the spirit of "two bombs and one star", the spirit of manned space flight and the spirit of lunar exploration, which were forged by generations of Chinese science and technology workers.
