History of mobile phone design industry

Since 1990, Hangzhou Communication Equipment Factory of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of China signed a contract with MOTOROLA. Hangzhou Communication Equipment Factory manufactured mobile phones for MOTOROLA by SKD(main components), which opened the prelude to the development of China's mobile phone industry.

From 1993 to June 1999, mobile phone manufacturers successively entered China, and the market share of China's local mobile phone brands Orient Communications, Xochua, KECO Construction, TCL and Waveguide also grew rapidly from 3% in 1999 to 30% in 2002. The continuous growth of Chinese mobile phone brands led to the rapid development of mobile phone foundry industry. One of its cooperation modes is to use a mobile phone module with peripheral components, and the other is to directly label.

In the early stage of development, Taiwan's mobile phone ODM (commission design and manufacturing) industry cut into the mobile phone industry from the PC industry, relying on the advantages of the notebook and EMS industry chain, and cut into the mobile phone contract manufacturing industry through subsidiaries, including Quanta, Compal, Hua Guan, Flextronics and Hon Hai (FIH). It mainly serves international brand manufacturers such as Nokia(Nokia), Motorola (MOTOROLA), Ericsson(Ericsson), Sony(SONY), HP(HP), and a small number of domestic brand customers.

2G era, Nokia, Motorola, Sony, Ericson and other first-line brands control the hardware development platform, Chinese mainland mobile phone brands Waveguide and Xia Xin mainly rely on the advantages of Chinese market sales, through the way of labeling, in the mainland of rapid volume, mainly with South Korean companies for OEM/ODM cooperation.

2.5G era intelligent machine, with the TI platform +Intel chipset model, Intel and Microsoft cut into the mobile phone industry, HTC is the biggest beneficiary, with the strong support of Microsoft, in the windows phone platform intelligent machine /PDA market accounted for the largest proportion. Subsequently, the launch of MTK turnkey solution solved the problem of platform selection of Chinese mobile phone design companies, and promoted the rise of China's mobile phone industry in the 2.5G era of smart phones. The rapid growth of Chinese design companies Wentai, Longqi and Ximtong was its main support.

In 2007, Apple entered the mobile phone market, which had a significant impact on Nokia, Motorola, Sony, Ericsson and other high-end markets. Taiwan's ODM industry was affected the most, and the industrial chain began to be differentiated and transformed, and the focus of mobile phone ODM industry gradually shifted from Taiwanese companies to Chinese mainland companies.

4G smartphones in China's mobile phone market began to start in 2013. Due to the gradual reduction of operator subsidies, the proportion of smartphone sales through operator channels began to decline. Huawei, OPPO, vivo and Xiaomi began to grow rapidly through open market channels. Among them, the research and development and design of thousand yuan intelligent machine products are mainly through cooperation with ODM companies such as Wentai, Huaqin, and De and Longqi.

5G mobile phones of the future

Science and technology are getting more and more developed, and the pace of The Times is getting faster and faster. The early mobile phone only had the function of making calls, and then it gradually added SMS, MMS, photography, games and other functions, and the screen changed from black and white to color. However, a few years later, when mobile phones were connected to the Internet, the whole world had an unexpected big change, mobile phones transformed into smart phones, and APP applications made people's lives more colorful. At this time, the mobile phone is no longer a tool for talking, it is equipped with human desires and technology, and its change and value are amazing.

In the face of the advent of 5G, with the support of 5G ultra-high-speed and ultra-low latency network capabilities, smartphones will be deeply integrated with high-definition video, virtual reality, augmented reality, holographic video, edge computing, Internet of Things, etc., to stimulate more applications, further enriching people's lives and improving social production efficiency.
