Badminton World Championships | "IELTS" and "mortal" combination easily advanced to the quarterfinals

The 2023 Badminton World Championships will continue to be held in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark on the 24th. Chinese women's doubles champions Chen Chenchen/Jia Yifan and mixed doubles defending champions Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong both easily defeated their opponents in straight sets and advanced to the quarterfinals.

The match between Chen Chenchen and Jia Yifan was scheduled to start for the second consecutive day on the first court. Faced with the young Indian duo Joli/Praira, the "mortal" duo easily won with a score of 21:14 and 21:9, continuing their journey towards their fourth World Championships women's doubles championship title.

"We have made very thorough preparations for this game, and the opponent's impact is very strong, with obvious characteristics. Every time we talk, we don't need to mention their names. When we talk about the Indian pair of players, we know they are them. So before the game, we also considered not being knocked out by them and needed to give it our all," Chen Chenchen said.

This is the sixth time Chen Chenchen and Jia Yifan have competed in the World Championships since their pairing. They have won three championships in 2017, 2021, and 2022 in the previous five competitions. The previous worst performance of the two in the World Championships was also in the quarterfinals. After defeating their Indian opponent on the same day, the two joked that they had already completed the "bottom line task" this time.

"After this game, it won't be worse than the worst record, the rest is to move forward," Chen Chenchen said. Teammate Jia Yifan stood aside and said that the next step is to adjust your mentality and be prepared to be challenged by each pair of opponents.

In another women's doubles match, Chinese team duo Zhang Shuxian/Zheng Yu defeated a Dutch pair 21:16 and 21:18, successfully advancing to the quarterfinals.

In the mixed doubles competition, the three time World Champion Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong, who also competed as defending champions, defeated the Indonesian duo Deyang/Videjia with a score of 21:14 and 21:9.

"The opponent played quite well in the first game, but we were also steadfastly executing our tactics at this time, and the results were actually quite good later on," Zheng Siwei said. "Today in the game, I felt that the more I killed (the ball), the smoother it went. When I went up, it wasn't that smooth. In the end, I felt more relaxed and the feeling of space was also better."

Another Chinese mixed doubles pair, Jiang Zhenbang/Wei Yaxin, defeated Malaysian pair Wu Shunfa/Lai Jiemin 21:16 and 21:18, securing a spot in the quarterfinals.
