Shi Yuqi, Li Shifeng, and Lu Guangzu advanced to the top 32 at the Badminton World Championships

The competition for the first day of the 2023 World Badminton Championships ended in Copenhagen, Denmark in the early morning of the 22nd. Four men's singles from the Chinese badminton team won three games and lost one. Li Shifeng, Shi Yuqi, and Lu Guangzu advanced to the round of 32, with only Zhao Junpeng narrowly defeated and eliminated.

Li Shifeng, the sixth seed of the competition and a member of the post-00s generation, took the lead in representing the national badminton team in a match against Panalin, the 91st ranked Kazakhstani player in the world. Li Shifeng completely took the initiative, taking only 30 minutes, and easily defeated his opponent with a score of 21-10 and 21-8, ushering in a good start to the World Championships.

Subsequently, Lu Guangzu played against Dutch player Quelke, who was ranked 82nd in the world. After winning the first game 21-15, he faced a test in the second game and fell behind 1-7 at one point. Starting from the middle of the game, Lu Guangzu continued to chase points and finally won the game 2-0 with a 4-point comeback at 18:20.

"In the first game, I entered the state relatively quickly, but in the second game, my opponent's tactical application was adjusted. I was unable to respond in a timely manner. Later, under the guidance of my coach, I played multiple shots with my opponent, forming a stalemate, consuming their physical strength, and achieving good results." Lu Guangzu recalled after the game.

As the 8th seeded player of the competition, Shi Yuqi faced Spanish player Luis, who ranked 60th in the world. "Encounter battles" are not easy to play. Shi Yuqi entered the first game slowly and fell behind 19-20 at one point. The key scorer Shi Yuqi remained calm and reversed 23-21. Shi Yuqi, who regained his form in the second game, led 7-3 at the beginning and firmly grasped the initiative, winning 21-8.

The only one who was eliminated was Zhao Junpeng, who won third place at the previous World Championships. He met Malaysian player Huang Zhiyong, and despite saving four consecutive game points in the second round, Zhao Junpeng still lost to his opponent 19-21 and 24-26, stopping in the first round.

The focus of this round's match is Malaysia's top male singles player Li Zijia against the 5th seed and Indonesian star Jonathan.
