Guoyu has 8 wins and 1 loss, and the two matches on that day were touching

The competition for the second day of the 2023 Badminton World Championships ended in the early morning of the 23rd. The Chinese badminton team achieved a record of 8 wins and 1 loss, with only Lu Guangzu in the men's singles being eliminated. The women's singles and mixed doubles matches were the most eye-catching on the court that day.

In the national badminton competition, women's singles Chen Yufei, He Bingjiao, and Wang Zhiyi defeated Bai Yupo from Taipei, Indonesia's Wadani, and Germany's Li Yifeng respectively, successfully advancing to the round of 16. Li Shifeng defeated Thailand's Wang Gaolun in the men's singles and also advanced, but unfortunately, Lu Guangzu lost to Prince Wei of Taipei, becoming the second Chinese men's singles player to be eliminated after Zhao Junpeng.

In doubles, Guangdong young player Ren Xiangyu teamed up with Tan Qiang and defeated Singapore pair Guo Junliang/Luo Jianxian in three sets. Three Chinese pairs of mixed doubles advanced, namely Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong, Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dongping, and Jiang Zhenbang/Wei Yaxin.

The match between young players Jiang Zhenbang/Wei Yaxin and Israeli duo Svetlana Silberman/Misha Silberman caught the attention of the court. The opponents were a mother and son who reached a combined age of 99 years old. Svetlana's mother was 65 years old and her son was 34 years old. The two defeated the Egyptian duo Ergham/Hani in the first round, setting a new record for the oldest winning player in the history of the World Championships. Last year, Svetlana also broke the record for the oldest participant at the Tokyo Badminton World Championships, previously held by 46 year old American player Fugiti. After losing 11-21 and 13-21 to Jiang Zhenbang/Wei Yaxin, the mother and son embraced deeply.

It is understood that Svetlana comes from Russia and has won a bronze medal in women's singles at the European Championships. Later, she and her husband moved to Israel. The son inherited his mother's athletic talent and became the first Israeli athlete to compete in badminton at the 2012 London Olympics, making up for his mother's regret of not being able to participate in the Olympics that year. In 2005, the mother and son teamed up to participate in the mixed doubles event. When they first won the Israeli national championship together, their son Misha was only 16 years old and their mother was 47 years old. Now the two have been competing together for 18 consecutive years and have won the mixed doubles championship in Israel's national badminton competition for over 10 consecutive years.

Another eye-catching match was the women's singles focal point match between Japanese star Aohara Hope and Indian player Sindu. Aoyuan, who is 1.56 meters tall, hopes to be enemies with Xindu, who is 1.78 meters tall. Aoyuan hopes to win the 2017 World Championships, and the final was a tough 110 minute battle against Xindu, after which both sides were exhausted and unable to stand up. In the final of the 2019 World Championships, the two met again, and Sindu successfully avenged himself, winning his first world championship.

However, both of them encountered difficulties afterwards. Aoyuan hoped for continuous injuries, and Xindu's condition declined, with world rankings dropping to 36th and 13th respectively, which is a certain distance from the current top four women's singles in the world, Chen Yufei, An Xiying, Shan Kou Qian, and Dai Ziying. However, the two of them still fought fiercely in this match, and in the second round, Aoyuan hoped to perform a comeback with a 0-9 deficit, ultimately winning 21-14 with two goals.
