2023 The reddest color, why is it

The international color authority Pantone has announced the color of the year 2023: Viva Magenta 18-1750.

It is a distinctive deep red hue derived from the oldest natural dye of mankind, cochineal dye.

As for why it was chosen as the New Year's color? Pantone explains it this way:

Extraordinary magenta is a vibrant color, confident but not aggressive, that promotes optimism and happiness, encourages unfettered self-expression, and displays a new signal of strength.

Leatrice Eiseman, Executive director of the Color Institute, further said: "The extraordinary magenta is rooted in nature, connecting us to the original material, and can awaken people's inner strength.

This is also the biggest difference between it and the 2022 color of the year - Very Peri, which is dreamy and healing, and extraordinary magenta, which emphasizes the ability to satisfy our desire for power.

And yes, after such a tumultuous three years, we do need some vitality and energy to lift our spirits and get going again.

Then, use the extraordinary magenta to welcome the New Year!

We talked about how Pantone came up with color trends in a previous article.

Professional color research teams prepare 18-24 months in advance, travel around the world, pay attention to the dynamics of the situation and people's psychological changes, and look for popular color signals.

And in the international fashion color committee held twice a year, to show and share their data reports to manufacturers.

In other words, what we now know as the "latest" fashion color was actually decided a year or two ago.

Not only in the fashion industry, but in all industries related to color, art, graphic design and printing, home and architecture will selectively reference and use these colors.

The same goes for the newly released extraordinary Magenta.

It was introduced into the Pantone color system in 2019 and quickly gained the attention of the fashion world.

As Leatrice Eiseman says, "It's an unconventional color for unconventional times."

The first signs of this trend were seen at the fall/Winter fashion Week, which was released in February and March this year.

For example, in the avant-garde art atmosphere of Loewe 2022 autumn and winter show, bold red lips to stimulate people's visual nerves.

Gucci show also joined the flare of magenta, the use of different materials and designs, showing different modern.

In Pantone's interpretation, the extraordinary magenta is also a mixture of shades between warm and cold, suitable for a variety of skin tones, can give the design more expressive.
