In recent years, the SAR Government has actively promoted the inclusion of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong's health care system. Professor Fung Yik Bin, Dean of the School of Chinese Medicine of the University of Hong Kong, believes that Hong Kong has already established a wide coverage of primary Chinese medicine care network.
Including acupuncture and massage, orthopedics and traumatology of Chinese medicine, nurses of Chinese medicine and integrated Chinese and Western medicine, etc. At the same time, we will expedite the construction of the Hong Kong Hospital of Chinese Medicine to provide in-patient services of Chinese medicine, so as to further improve the local healthcare system.
Mr Fung pointed out that Hong Kong's medical system is dominated by western medicine, which has already reached a world-class level, and the addition of Chinese medicine elements and the integration of Chinese and Western medicine on this basis can make Hong Kong's medical services more diversified and patients have more choices. He opined that the 18 district Chinese medicine clinics and teaching and research centres under the tripartite collaboration of the Hospital Authority and others, together with the Chinese medicine clinics operated by non-profit-making organizations, universities and the private sector respectively,
The next step should be to strengthen the development of Chinese medicine specialties and inpatient services, promote the inclusion of part of Chinese medicine health care and medical services in the public health and medical system, give full play to the advantages of Chinese medicine in health preservation, health care, treatment and rehabilitation, and promote and stabilize Hong Kong into a world-class medical, health and longevity capital.
What role can universities play in health care?
Mr Feng believes that academic research institutions, especially Chinese medicine schools in universities, are a complex of education, medical treatment and research, and play multiple roles in the Chinese medicine or integrated Chinese and Western medicine healthcare system, including clinical services, research and innovation, personnel training, international cooperation and exchange.
On clinical services, Mr Fung said that the Schools of Chinese Medicine of the three universities were involved in 18 district Chinese medicine clinics and operated their own Chinese medicine clinics,
and the School of Chinese Medicine of the University of Hong Kong was currently involved in six tripartite Chinese medicine clinics in addition to operating two Chinese medicine clinics directly under the School, and providing clinical services in the Chinese medicine departments of the University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Hospital and the Hong Kong Yee Hospital.
He also mentioned that apart from training Chinese medicine professionals in accordance with the existing education system, universities could also play an important role in specialist training in the future, including optimizing and updating the curriculum of Chinese medicine in the light of social needs and industry development trends.
Strengthen the internship; We employ senior experts in the industry to give lectures and guidance, so that students can directly benefit from clinical experience, and encourage TCM students to participate in scientific research projects, contact cutting-edge knowledge, and cultivate scientific research ability.
