Why did the new Dietary Guidelines change from less than 6 grams of salt to less than 5 grams?

Studies have linked excessive salt intake to high blood pressure, stroke, stomach cancer, and all-cause death. Chinese residents generally exceed the salt intake, so it is necessary to firmly reduce the daily salt intake per person, cultivate light taste, and gradually quantify the use of salt. The daily intake of less than 6 grams of salt recommended in the previous version of the Dietary guidelines is a phased goal, and the daily intake of salt is now recommended to be no more than 5 grams, which is not only in line with the health guideline value of the World Health Organization, but also better in line with the requirements of healthy China.

How to achieve 5 grams of salt per person per day at home?

First, don't overeat. If you eat more food than your body needs, it's easy to eat more salt. Refuse high-salt food, learn to read the nutrition label, pay attention to hidden salt, there are many seasonings, food itself contains salt, such as chicken essence, MSG, oyster sauce and other seasonings contain high sodium content.

Second, learn to cook. The amount of salt used in cooking at home should not be completely calculated according to 5 grams per person per day, and the daily salt intake of children and the elderly should be less. You can use a limited salt spoon jar and gradually reduce the amount.
