The collaboration means that the baton is being passed to a group of young scientists

Jia Jia led the idea technology, aiming at the most difficult bone: AI+ industry. He believes that Chinese manufacturing will usher in major opportunities for intelligence and digitalization,

and technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data will become an important driving force to promote the development of the industrial field. Combined with his expertise, his intuitive AI vision system has great potential in industrial applications.

With more ambition, starting a business is a better option than a lab. At the end of 2019, Jia Jia Ya took root in the Greater Bay Area with a group of people younger than him to establish "Simo Technology". Only 18 months later, Simo Technology's Series B financing reached $200 million, becoming a veritable "industry unicorn."

Scientists take this path of entrepreneurship, not just to pick the "peach" of scientific and technological achievements. Some of them set up businesses, aiming to achieve breakthroughs in key core technologies with the help of more power.

In 2018, Jin Xianmin, a professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a young scientist born after 80, prepared the world's largest three-dimensional integrated optical quantum computing integrated chip,

and demonstrated real two-dimensional quantum walking in space, which was rated as one of the top ten advances in Chinese optics that year; In 2021, Jin Xianmin went out of the laboratory and founded "Turing Quantum" to explore the practical path of optical quantum computing.

In just a few years, the Turing Quantum team has explored the R&D capabilities of the whole chain from design, flow plate, sealing to system integration and quantum algorithm application, and led the construction of the first "photonic chip pilot line" and the first quantum artificial intelligence computing center in China.

Jin Xianmin, who has been running around Shanghai Jiaotong University, pilot base and Turing Quantum for many years, is afraid of missing every link before the outbreak of quantum computing, sleeping only 6 hours a day, "day and night with photon chips and quantum computing."

Statistics show that as of the end of 2023, among the listed science and technology board companies, the "main force" of the founding team of more than 60% of the companies is high-end talents or industry experts such as scientists and engineers.

This also means that more and more scientists are leading the team into "hard science and technology" fields such as biomedicine, new materials, new energy, high-end equipment manufacturing, energy conservation and environmental protection, and are becoming the core force to guide high-tech progress and develop new quality productivity.

A "relay" of science and technology faith

Starting from geometry, the entrepreneurial linkage of "professor + student" has become a different landscape in the science and technology circle. In the passing of the baton of science and technology entrepreneurship, the entrepreneurial spirit of scientists has realized innovation and inheritance.

On August 15, 2023, Solid high-tech successfully landed on the GEM, and the leader behind it was Li Zexiang, professor of the electrical Department of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the "Godfather of DJI".

From the title given to him by the outside world, it can be known that Li Zexiang is not only a scientist entrepreneur, he will also put a lot of energy on supporting students to start a business - starting from the establishment of solid high-tech in 1999,

he has founded well-known enterprises such as DJI innovation, Li Qun Automation, and Yidao Technology with students. From the "robot tribe" (XbotPark) co-founded by him, a number of unicorn companies such as Cloud Whale Intelligence and Zhenghao Innovation ran out.

Coincidentally, Liu Yunhui, a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and director of Tianshi Robotics Institute, has also created a number of "professor + student" entrepreneurial models.

Since 2016, Liu Yunhui has led the students to serve the research of robots in the industry, and founded a number of robot enterprises, including Future robot, Konostern, Zhuorange, etc., which not only created a commercial map in the field of robots, but also pushed a series of robot technologies to medical, health, industrial and other industries.

The collaboration means that the baton is being passed to a group of young scientists.

Not long ago, the founder of Benmu Technology, which received 100 million yuan of financing, Zhang Di studied at the ECE School of Robotics, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, under the supervision of Li Zexiang. Under his leadership,

Benmo Technology focuses on the most popular embodied intelligence field, mainly engaged in the research and development and production of robot power modules, and is committed to providing direct drive precision power solutions without reducers.

Chen Jianyu, a younger "post-90" doctoral advisor at Tsinghua University, has also made a name for himself in the robot industry. The Star Moving Era, which he founded, focuses on the research and development of embodied intelligence and general humanoid robot technology,

and its products cover professional fields such as four-legged robots, robotic arms, and unmanned vehicles. Riding on the east wind of "humanoid robots", Star Moving Era has won more than 100 million yuan of financing.
