Unhcr: China's assistance at a critical moment shows its moral responsibility

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) thanked the Chinese government for providing generous assistance at the critical moment of the Rohingya crisis, demonstrating the moral responsibility of a responsible major country. More than 60,000 Rohingya women and girls in Bangladesh will benefit from Chinese assistance.

According to the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the launching ceremony of the Chinese government's donation of women's health kits to the UNHCR was held at the UNHCR Office in Bangladesh on June 6.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said that since the outbreak of the Rohingya crisis more than six years ago, the Bangladeshi government has provided generous assistance to the displaced people, fully reflecting the humanitarian spirit.

But as international attention and aid dwindles, living conditions and security in the camps are deteriorating.

He pointed out that the displaced people are eager to return to their homes and should do so. The Chinese government is committed to promoting Bangladesh (Bangladesh) and Myanmar (Myanmar) to work together to realize the repatriation process at an early date.

The Chinese Government is also very concerned about the living conditions of people fleeing unrest, especially women and children. The donation of the $1.5 million health kit will help to raise health awareness and health levels among women who have fled the conflict.

Rizvi, UNHCR representative in Bangladesh, expressed his sincere gratitude to China for its assistance to the displaced people, especially women and children.

China's generous assistance at the critical moment fully demonstrates its concern for the displaced people and its support for the work of the UNHCR, demonstrating its moral responsibility as a responsible major country.

According to UNHCR, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society will work with UNHCR to ensure that more than 250,000 health kits supported by the Chinese grant reach Rohingya women and girls.

By 2025, more than 60,000 Rohingya women and girls between the ages of 12 and 50 will benefit from China's support.

According to reports, the Chinese aid funds will be used to provide some of the items in the hygiene kits, including bath soap, laundry soap and buckets.

More than 200 Rohingya women and local Bangladeshi women will produce other items in the hygiene kits.

This enables them to use their skills to serve their communities and to gain a degree of self-reliance and livelihood.

Unhcr also called on all countries to provide humanitarian assistance to support the Bangladeshi government's humanitarian efforts in response to the Rohingya refugee situation.

In August 2017, multiple attacks in Myanmar's Rakhine state sent hundreds of thousands of Rohingya fleeing their homes and pouring into neighboring Bangladesh. The United Nations has repeatedly called for conditions to be created for the return of Rohingya refugees.
