A Qixia Street, a hundred years of Weihai history -- the past and present life of Qixia Street

Qixia Street is the only fully preserved century-old street in Weihai so far. It is located in the center of Huancui Business District of Weihai City, with Shichang Avenue in the south, Heping Road in the north, Xinwei Road in the east and Dongcheng Road in the west.

According to the historical records of Weihai City Archives, around the 13th year of Guangxu (1887), with the stationing of Beiyang Navy in Weihai, the east of Weihai City gradually prospered, with shops, hotels, hotels and other buildings springing up like mushrooms, and Qixia Street gradually took shape.

In the late 19th century, Weihai carried out urban development and construction centering on three parts: administration, sports and commerce. Among them, the south of the city will be set up as Edward commercial port area,

vigorously develop commerce, Qixia Street is the core of the commercial port area. Qixia Street also became the most prosperous commercial street at that time, with all kinds of entertainment facilities, theaters, tea houses, grand theaters, hospitals and so on.

The Qixia Street characteristic block project is planned to cover an area of about 41.8 mu, with a planned construction area of about 49,100 square meters (0.900 square meters of reserved buildings, about 20,300 square meters of new construction on the ground and 26,900 square meters of underground construction).

The planned total parking space of Qixia Street is about 548, which greatly facilitates public traffic and optimizes the shopping and entertainment experience of public tourists. Combined with the historical and cultural heritage of the old street,

the architectural style of Qixia Street integrating the East and the West is preserved to the maximum extent. While protecting and inheriting Weihaiwei's cultural context, it will build a new block that conforms to modern urban planning and innovates cultural, commercial and tourism.
