The IBF World Championships, commonly known as the World Badminton Championships

The World Badminton Championships are organized by the International Badminton Federation.

The first was held in 1977 in Malmo, Sweden, and has been held every three years since then, with the third being held every two years (odd-numbered years).

In 1978, some countries and regions organized another World Badminton Federation, which also held the "World Badminton Championship" with the same name.

In 1981, the International Badminton Federation and the World Badminton Federation merged to form the International Badminton Federation. The World Championships were also held at the same time, the first being held in 1983.

The original men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, mixed doubles five events, since 1989 to add the Sudirman Cup mixed team event.

Before the former IBF and BWF joined forces to form the new IBF in 1981, there were two World badminton Championships in the world, one was founded by the former IBF in 1977, and the other was organized by the BWF in 1978.

These two world badminton championships could not gather all the famous players in the world badminton field at that time, so they were not really the world's highest level of badminton championships.

The World Badminton Championship is a kind of badminton championship with individual event as the competition item set up by the International Badminton Federation after the Tang and You Cup in order to meet the needs of the development of world badminton.

In 1934, the International Badminton Federation was established in the United Kingdom and was the first worldwide badminton organization.

In 1978, the World Badminton Federation was founded. Prior to the union of the two organizations, they had held two individual tournaments each considered to be worldwide, namely the IBF in 1977 and 1980, and the BWF in 1978 and 1979.

In 1981, the two international badminton organizations announced a union, the name is still the International Badminton Federation. At the Federation (at the end of June 1996, there were 124 member states and regions), it was decided to hold a World badminton event every two years, that is, the Individual World Championships, and continue the number of previous sessions of the two international badminton organizations.

In 1983, the 3rd World Badminton Championships were officially held in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.

There are only five individual events in the tournament, namely men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles. The winners of all events receive the gold medal, the runners-up the silver medal, and the semifinalists the bronze medal.

In 1988, the International Badminton Federation decided to hold the World Badminton Championships at the same time as the newly established Sudirman Cup.

The IBF invites the top 16 (pairs) athletes from each event to compete directly, based on the world rankings at the time. Each BF Member State and territory may not enter more than 4 athletes in each event (yes).

The IBF World Championships, commonly known as the World Badminton Championships, is a single badminton tournament organized by the International Badminton Federation to crown the world's top badminton players.

On March 31, 2020, after the postponement of the Tokyo Olympic Games was confirmed, the BWF issued a statement on the official website, saying that the BWF is aware of the need to reschedule the 2021 Badminton World Championships (usually held in August) and is discussing a suitable alternative with the host country Spain.

On May 1, 2020, the BWF announced that the Badminton World Championships, originally scheduled to be held in Spain in August 2021, would be rescheduled to the end of 2021.

On June 28, the BWF released the adjusted competition calendar for the second half of the year, and the 2021 Badminton World Championships are scheduled to be held in Huelva, Spain, from December 12 to 19
