How can sustainability take root

On the red carpet at the end of the Met Gala, Louis Vuitton assembled an army of stars to stage a "old clothes new" movement, from Sophie Turner and Gemma Chan, to Zheng Ho-yeon, have been mixing and matching the last season of Louis Vuitton women's collection.

Gemma Chan's Met Gala look was a mashup of Louis Vuitton's Spring 2020 women's collection (jackets) and Spring/Summer 2022 women's collection (dresses).

Nicolas Ghesquiere, artistic director of womenswear, explains: "There is no better feeling than seeing your design live on. As artistic director, my role is to create constantly, but this year's Met Gala has the opportunity to return to collections and designs from the past, which is exciting."

In this red carpet show where celebrities compete for beauty, when they deduce the classic design of the brand in the past with a confident smile, the concept of sustainable fashion has been promoted and spread in a subtle way.

At the recently concluded Autumn/Winter 2022 International Fashion Week, the sustainable practices of major brands have been further developed, Stella McCartney followed the last season's Frayme bag made of mycelium fiber, and the new season has tried to extract grape waste from Italian wineries to make new handbags; Chloe Creative director Gabriela Hearst worked with Gee's Bend Quilters, an Alabama-based quilting community for black women, to create quilts for the Fall/Winter 2022 collection from stock materials.

Balenciaga also experimented with mycelia-based leather coats for the new season.

The first 3D printed clothing collection I designed was the Crystallization collection, which was completed in 2010.

I was working with two architects who happened to be designing their new museum in 3D.

And this intricate design inspired me to think about clothing - how to combine 3D technology with the traditional craftsmanship of high fashion.

One of the advantages of 3D printing is that there is no cutting waste in the production process.

Sustainability is the starting point for Rave Review and the sole reason we created this brand.

Four years ago there were no luxury brands working on upgrading, so we thought there was a gap in the market that needed to be filled.

We hope to combine our love of fashion to create a dream job.

And we've found a way to do something harmless and meaningful for the planet.

I've been designing clothes since I was a teenager, and when I see discarded items, I get the urge to reuse them. Recently, for the brand's third anniversary, I upgraded some of my old clothes, including a Balmain vintage dress, a 1960s fur coat and an expensive military sweater.

I'm always looking for new materials to use and developing new processes. This is continuous and passionate progress.

My time in London had a big impact on the way I source and use second-hand materials.
