Proper exercise is comparable to blood pressure medication

A few days ago, I met a patient who was just diagnosed with hypertension, and he asked me: "Can I exercise because of hypertension?" Does exercise make high blood pressure worse?"

There are many patients in the clinic who have similar questions, but the answer is yes: people with high blood pressure can exercise. On the surface, exercise may temporarily raise blood pressure, but many studies have confirmed that regular exercise is comparable to first-line antihypertensive drugs: aerobic exercise can reduce blood pressure by 5 to 7 mm Hg, resistance exercise can reduce blood pressure by 2 to 3 mm Hg; Exercise also reduces the risk of cardiovascular events by 20 to 30 percent.

Hypertension patients in the type of exercise there is no taboo, as long as you like the safe exercise can participate, such as fast walking, jogging, cycling, square dancing, aerobics, mountaineering and other aerobic exercise, can also be appropriate to increase some strength training every week, such as push-ups, planks and so on. Exercise frequency and normal people are the same, it is recommended to carry out at least 3 to 5 times a week, more than 30 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic exercise, it is best to exercise every day. The so-called medium intensity, that is, will make the heart rate slightly faster, slightly sweat, feel a little tired, breathing rate during exercise, may be slightly panting, can talk to people, but can not sing, according to the pace, walk 120 steps per minute; According to the heart rate, it reaches the value of "170- age". In addition, rest about 10 minutes after exercise, breathing and heart rate can return to normal or close to normal level is appropriate; If it cannot be recovered, it indicates that the exercise intensity is too high.

Hypertensive patients should pay attention to four points when exercising. 1. High blood pressure exercise: when the blood pressure is more than 180/110 mm Hg when quiet, it is not appropriate to carry out moderate or above intensity exercise; 2. Choose exercise time: hypertension patients with early morning blood pressure is often at a high level, it is best to choose afternoon or evening exercise; 3. Pay attention to warm-up and relaxation: Before entering the formal exercise, do 5-10 minutes of warm-up exercise to prevent injury. Do not stop immediately after exercise, you can slow down the exercise, or do some relaxation; 4. Pay attention to physical symptoms: during exercise, you should pay close attention to your own feelings, if there is shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat or irregular, you should slow down or rest, if you feel chest pain, jaw or arm pain, you should stop immediately, and seek medical attention as soon as possible.
