Take stock of her wonderful design career

Yesterday, Phoebe Philo announced her departure from Celine after ten years, and said that she would not transfer to other brands in the near future. The Fall/Winter 2018 collection will be her last season at CELINE. We take a look at the life of the British designer who took Celine to the top.

Phoebe Philo was born in Paris, but her parents are British. Phoebe's father is a cartographer and her mother is an art dealer and freelance graphic designer. The family soon returned to England, where Philo grew up in Harrow, north-west London.

The year 1987

Philo has been modifying her school uniform since the age of 11, and on her 14th birthday, she received a sewing machine as a gift, which began her "life of design".

The year 1996

After pre-school studies at the Wimbledon School of Art, Philo graduated with friend Stella McCartney as a fashion undergraduate at Central Saint Martins.

Her graduation collection showcased the rugged, unrestrained style of the 2000s, combining elegant tailoring with street style. "I just wanted to make a pair of pants that would make my butt look nice and not symbolize the Holocaust or anything,"

The year 1997

A year after graduating, Philo moved to Paris to join newly appointed Chloe design director Stella McCartney as chief design assistant.

The year 2001

Philo took over Chloe after McCartney left to start her own brand. She made a natural transition from an indispensable assistant position to a mature and experienced design director. "It was a gut decision.

I told her she might have to work really hard, but she said she wanted to, "Chloe CEO Ralph Toledano recalled in 2002.

The year 2002

Philo created Chloe's first handbag collection and opened a new flagship store on London's Sloane Street, designed by architect Sophie Hicks.

The year 2004

Philo's carefully crafted effortless femininity, symbolizing Chloe's 1970s heyday with a touch of British cool, has seen the brand's annual sales increase by 40%, This led to Phobe himself being named British Designer of The Year at The British Fashion Awards.

The year 2005

Philo designed the "lockhead" Paddington Bag and sparked the "IT bag" phenomenon, which became "the most popular accessory in the history of fashion business." The 8,000 samples produced in 2005 had already been ordered by the time they arrived at the store, and the waiting list had already been closed.

However, at this time Philo went on maternity leave, leaving her team solely responsible for the design of the Fall/Winter 2005 collection. Such a move is almost unprecedented for a prominent designer who was able to increase Chloe's sales by 60 per cent in a single year.

Philo is British, her husband and children are living in London, after Philo became creative director of Celine, only two days a week in Paris, the rest of the time to go back to London to spend time with family

The year 2006

After transforming Chloe into "the Chanel of her generation," with wholesale sales of about $300 million in 2006, Philo stepped down to spend the next two years with his family. "I'm not living a real life,"
