Liu Jin, director of the Anesthesia Surgery Center of the West China Hospital of Sichuan University, donated 100 million yuan to the hospital Wednesday to set up a special fund to encourage residents and teachers and improve their clinical abilities.

The money comes from Liu Jin's transformation of scientific and technological achievements, which is also the first special training and development fund set up by individual donations in China.

For this large amount of donation, 65-year-old Liu Jin said frankly: "100 million yuan is not a small amount. If this money is used for our small ordinary family to spend a more comfortable retirement life,

we think it is a waste, and donated to the cause of resident doctor planning training, more social significance, more reflect our life value. So I discussed with my wife and made this decision."

From 2020 to 2021, Sichuan University West China Hospital signed two patent licensing and project cooperation development contracts with Yichang Renfu Pharmaceutical, with a total contract amount of 750 million yuan.

Because the patents involved in the two contracts were developed and produced by Liu Jin and his team, in accordance with the "Nine incentive Policies for the transformation of scientific and technological Achievements" of West China Hospital, Liu Jin personally received 100 million yuan in incentive funds.

As a famous clinical anesthesiology expert in China, Liu Jin has been committed to anesthetic-related research with his team. The above two successful transformation results are "new skeletal muscle relaxation drugs" and "ultra-long-acting local anesthetics" two new anesthetic drugs.

In 2021, Sichuan University West China Hospital and Yichang Renfu Pharmaceutical signed two contracts for joint development of new skeletal muscle relaxant technology with a total value of 500 million yuan,

including a cooperative development agreement of 400 million yuan and 5% of annual sales revenue commission, and a patent license agreement of 100 million yuan (within China). The drug is a class of general anesthesia drugs, with the characteristics of quick onset, quick recovery, small accumulation and so on.

The previous year, the two sides reached cooperation on "ultra-long-acting local anesthetics" and signed a patent licensing and cooperative development technology contract worth 250 million yuan.

At that time, this not only set the highest technology transfer fee of West China Hospital, but also the highest patent license fee of Sichuan Hospital. The biggest highlight of the drug is that the effect can reach more than 50 hours, which is 2 to 5 times the action time of the existing varieties.

According to the wechat public account of Sichuan University West China Hospital, the above 250 million yuan includes patent exclusive license fees of 50 million yuan and cooperative development contracts of 200 million yuan.

According to the regulations of the institute, the first-line scientific research team can get 80% of the patent license fee, that is, 40 million yuan. In addition to the hospital's 10% management fee and resource utilization fee,

90% of the R&D funds of 200 million yuan will be allocated by the scientific research team during the research and development of the project, that is, 180 million yuan will be allocated by the team for project research and development.
